It Couldn’t Be Done

BY EDGAR ALBERT GUEST

Keyser-6Somebody said that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!

Somebody scoffed: “Oh, you’ll never do that;
At least no one ever has done it;”
But he took off his coat and he took off his hat
And the first thing we knew he’d begun it.
With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,
Without any doubting or quiddit,
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it.

There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
There are thousands to prophesy failure,
There are thousands to point out to you one by one,
The dangers that wait to assail you.
But just buckle in with a bit of a grin,
Just take off your coat and go to it;
Just start in to sing as you tackle the thing
That “cannot be done,” and you’ll do it.

ABOUT KEYSER

We created Keyser to be a new kind of commercial real estate firm that would transform the commercial real estate industry through selfless service. Our goal is to prove once and for all that the most self-interested business strategy in the world is to be of selfless service to others. Hear a message from the founder about the vision and mission of Keyser.

Keyser Named Best Place To Work Two Years Running

Best Place To Work Arizona

Keyser has been voted “Best Place To Work” in Arizona for the second straight year by the Phoenix Business Journal.

Keyser took a top ten spot in the micro company category for organizations with between 10 to 49 employees. Keyser has ranked among the top companies both years since the initial founding of the company in 2013. The full Best Places To Work issue can be found here.

“We set out to create the coolest company in the world that would change the commercial real estate industry forever,” said Jonathan Keyser, one of the founding Keyser members. “We live and breathe this mission and get up every morning and work excitedly towards it. We have the greatest people in the world…superstars all of them…and it is an honor and a privilege for me to be associated with such a group of extraordinary people.”

The Vision of Keyser is to create a totally different category of commercial real estate firm – one that brings client service and advocacy to a whole new level, and that enables individuals to realize their true and full potential.

Culture is everything at Keyser – only individuals that are best-in-class and committed to service and the other Keyser core principles are considered for employment opportunities.

Keyser truly does work together as ONE TEAM, and do not compete internally as traditional commercial real estate firms do. Members help each other selflessly for the good of the organization, each other, and clients.

Thoughts from the Team on Our Culture

“I love how many ideas about how to improve the company are always being shouted out, emailed out, or brought up in our meetings. With the level of coachability and openness everyone has, these ideas are frequently adopted and if they’re not, they’re fun to talk about, daydream about, and laugh about.” – Ian Davie
“The brilliant thing about Keyser is that we have a system that enables ‘altruistic givers’ to have success. Knowing how to give, serve, and love in such a way where you can also produce tremendous results makes Keyser uniquely capable of changing the world.” – Blake Hardison
”We set out to create the coolest company in the world that would change the commercial real estate industry forever. We live and breathe this mission and get up every morning and work excitedly towards it. We have the greatest people in the world…superstars all of them…and it is an honor and a privilege for me to be associated with such a group of extraordinary people.” – Jonathan Keyser
”The best thing about Keyser is you get to be YOU.” – Rae Johnson
“The Keyser culture is not something one adheres to from 9:00 to 5:00, it is a way of life and becomes a part of us. Every team member’s objective is to make the others the best version of themselves they can be and will go above and beyond to ensure this happens. The word “family” is loosely used in other organizations, but here at Keyser we truly are brothers and sisters and strive to achieve greatness together, as one team.” – Noah Barrasso
”As an organization, Keyser truly encourages and enables all of its team members to provide an exceptional level of client service that builds the kind of long-term relationships that are so crucial to sustained success. The best interests of both the client and the other Keyser team members are always considered before any key decision is made. As a result, win-win situations are the norm, rather than the exception.” – Chris Ray
”What differentiates Keyser from most professional environments is that everyone in the organization is truly committed to the success of everyone else in the firm. This “we” not “me” focus that permeates the culture produces a no-stress environment that allows professionals to fully focus on the important things and not sweat the plethora of small-minded stuff that weighs down many professionals in other corporate cultures.” – Darius Green
”Singular Focus. That’s what different at Keyser, and what sets us apart from the rest of the industry. We serve the Tenant, only… all of us. What happens when you have a roomful of people all dedicated to the same singular fundamental methodology? Keyser happens.” – Mike Leonard
”At many companies, the intention of management is to extract every ounce of productivity from its employees at as low a price point as possible. At Keyser, each member’s personal and professional growth are fundamental to the success of the company. Each member’s development is fostered through regular coaching, support, and guidance. The result to which we are committed is a company of fulfilled individuals who find great joy at being the best in their field.” – Clint Hardison
”The Keyser culture to me is about maximizing our individual and collective potential, pushing ourselves past where we are comfortable, seeking out how we can become more effective, getting up every morning and working relentlessly to provide extraordinary service to everyone that we touch, and throwing our hearts and souls into a mission that is bigger than ourselves. This company is about attracting the best and brightest people to work in a safe and highly supportive and collaborative environment to relentlessly create greatness in all that we do. We will be a Fortune 500 company that transforms the business world through selfless service. You mark my words…” – Jonathan Keyser
”Jonathan is doing an incredible job running and growing this company. It’s uncommon to have a leader with such passion and love for his company and the people that work there.” – Kevin Lange
“Working for Keyser is like a breath of fresh air. It is a positive environment where collaboration and thinking outside the box is not only encouraged it is celebrated.” – Erin Harper
”Building this company is so fun it doesn’t even feel like work.” – Jonathan Keyser
”I have never been around a leader like Jonathan who actually makes it a point to make sure my personal and profession life are in tune with each other. Quite frankly, its refreshing!” – Rick Osselaer

12 Characteristics of Effective Leaders

Following is an outline of a presentation given by Carlisle Driggers at Bambi Lake.

Leaders are made, not born. Leaders learn to lead; they are lifelong learners. Effective
leaders keep on learning, but they never arrive.

Characteristics of Effective Leaders:

1. Effective leaders are results oriented. They help to set and reach goals. However,
they are not demanding, always looking over people’s shoulders, or heavy handed.

2. Effective leaders ask the right questions. They don’t try to come up with all the
answers. They ask questions like, “Have you thought about this?”

3. Effective leaders listen more and talk less. They have two ears and one mouth and
they use them accordingly.

4. Effective leaders know that the best time to act is when there is a crisis. People tend
to either run or be demanding in a crisis. Effective leaders address the challenges.

5. Effective leaders sell; they rarely tell. They begin with vision, purpose and values.
They influence people rather than telling them what to do.

6. Effective leaders identify and build on strengths while they manage weaknesses.
Every organization has at least one strength. They identify strengths and then add
to them. They don’t let weaknesses control the organization.

7. Effective leaders identify the basics and stay with them. The basics are purpose,
vision, values, and passion.

8. Effective leaders know that money follows mission. Money will come in to support a
passionately followed mission.

9. Effective leaders know how to handle interruptions with grace and patience, and
then get back to the basics. Interruptions are unavoidable, but effective leaders
quickly get back to their passion.

10. Effective leaders know the critical importance of getting the right people on the bus.
They have the right people in the organization, serving in the right positions.

11. Effective leaders change the conversation. They change the conversation from
negative to positive. They get out and talk a different, positive message.

12. Effective leaders know how to pray for divine guidance. Secular leaders pray. How
much more should Christian leaders pray for guidance?

Those who lead best find their own voice and help others find their voice. A leaders’ job is
to help those around him or her become effective leaders.
